J&A Flowers harvests first Magnum chrysanthemums in new nursery

Just a few months after work began on the new building, J&A Flowers is proud to announce that they have harvested their first Magnum chrysanthemums at their new site on the Scheeweg in De Lier. This 36,000 m² expansion marks an important milestone for the family business, which works closely with other leading chrysanthemum growers within the VannoVa partnership.

Remco van Ruyven says: "The construction went smoothly and we are extremely grateful to the partners we work with for that. We are proud of the result of this expansion, which allows us to grow more efficiently and sustainably. With this new nursery, we are taking an important step in our growth and will be able to serve our customers even better."

The new greenhouse is equipped with advanced growing techniques such as double screens, misting, LED lighting, insect netting in the vents and a dehumidification system with air treatment units on the facade and associated hoses. This allows them to guarantee top quality chrysanthemums all year round. In terms of assortment, there are also innovations to report again. Besides their existing varieties such as the Magnum and Topspin, the company introduces new varieties every year in cooperation with breeders. Recent examples include the Honeymoon and the Undercover, which are grown exclusively by J&A Flowers.

Erwin van Luijk added: "We continue to think ahead and renew our range. This expansion will allow us to produce more quantities of our existing varieties and of our new varieties, which is necessary to keep meeting the growing demand of our customers. With this new construction, all preparations have also been made to add a little more than 3 hectares in the near future. With this expansion, we will stop using the temporary rental location and will be able to centralise more which offers great advantages in terms of automation and efficiency.
